Blue Blur happens when short blue light waves incorrectly focus in front of the retina, instead of on the back. Blue light also scatters off of dust and moisture particles, most commonly encountered during fog, rain, snow and overcast conditions. This reduces the sharpness of images andcauses eyestrain and fatigue. Many sunglasses get rid of blue blur by filtering out all blue light. While this does eliminate blue blur, it can be very hazardous. When blue is eliminated from the spectrum, the colors you see are distorted. For instance, reds appear black, so the lenses can be very dangerous when driving. Serengeti lenses are superior because they block only 95% of the blue light coming through the lens. You get the benefit of a true view of the color spectrum while preventing blue blur. In bright light conditions, when UV radiation is intense, the polarity of the molecules in the Serengeti glass change and separate. The lens becomes much denser and darker, absorbing more light. When UV radiation isn't as intense, the molecules move back together, making the lens less dense and allowing more light through. Why is this important? The human eye constantly adjusts to varying degrees of light. When conditions switch from light to dark, the eye has trouble adjusting to these conditions,losing important detail and contrast. This phenomenon is called dark adaptation and has the potential to be dangerous when driving. Serengeti's photochromic technology helps the eye adjust, effectively eliminating dark adaptation.
