Control Wizard Products' Convertible Reflector with pebbletone insert.No Glass, Socket or air adapters. Control Wizard Products has manufactured the first truly convertible lamp reflector. Control Wizard Products' lightweight Convertible Reflector will not burn out light movers like heavy steel reflectors do. Lightweight high quality painted aluminum is used to help insure that all brands and models of light movers will give years of faithful service. The reflector can be air cooled with either 4-inch or 6-inch air ducting by simply removing the appropriate end plates and install the selected air duct adapters. One or two air ducts may be run through the reflector at any one time. There is no right or wrong way to use the air ducting adapters or position lamps. The reflector has been designed to work for all applications. Use your imagination. The basic reflector does not include ducting adapters. Once you determine your needs you may order ducting adapters. Ten bends in the reflector insure the grower that any brand of HID lamp will throw an even light pattern over the plants. Multiple lamps may be used in several different configurations. Purchase an extra lamp socket plate and horizontal socket assembly when adding another lamp. No screwdrivers are required to position air ducting adapters, louvered plates, socket assembly plates or block-out plates.A screwdriver is needed to remove or replace the glass retainer lock. Glass is not included unless it is ordered. The Tempered Glass Shield is needed for air-cooling or to reduce UV rays to cuttings. Also, the Tempered Glass Shield is highly recommended, as it will protect the consumer from burns caused by accidentally coming in contact with the hot lamp or spraying water on a hot lamp, causing it to implode. High wattage compact fluorescent mogul base lamps may be used if a 120-volt socket assembly and power cord is purchased for each lamp. Control Wizard Products recommends Sunmaster brand lamps for the best growing results. Before you install a Position Oriented Horizontal Metal Halide lamp (designed to burn in the horizontal position only) into your new Convertible reflector you must connect a horizontal positioned socket assembly to the hood. You can purchase one from Control Wizard Products to replace your old one, ask to have one included with your new reflector or ask to have one installed on your new lamp ballast. High Pressure Sodium lamps do not require a Position Oriented Socket however this manual will treat all HID lamps the same. Convertible reflectors outfitted with a glass shield will have to remove the glass shield to install the ceramic mogul socket and lamp. To do this you will need to detach the glass shield retainer from the reflector by removing its four screws and slide the glass shield carefully out of the reflector. Peppermint has a powerful, sweet, menthol aroma which, when inhaled undiluted, can make the eyes water and the sinuses tingle. Add few drops to car dashboard to help stay alert, clear thinking and fresh. Traditionally used as an insect repellent, emollient, antiseptic, muscle relaxant. A very widely employed aromatherapy oil, try peppermint in a cooling compress across the forehead or over the back of the neck. Reelenz An innovative plant support spool with a sturdy 80 feet of nylon utilizing vine clips, if desired. Reelenz allows growers of heavy yielding vine crops, such as tomatoes and cucumbers, to securely support the plant. This spool contains unique replaceable twine spool and allowthe gardener to layer crops by simply pushing up on the spool which unlocks the self-lock and releases ten inches of twine. Ideal for growing ten to thirty foot long crops in commercial applications. Reelenz Hangers and Easy-reels have been designed to make the task of supporting and layering your tomato plants quicker, easier and more efficient. The Reelenz system is a two piece unit: The hanger and a disposable reel wound with twine The hanger is made of nylon for strength and durability. The clip ensures the hanger will not spin off the crop wire but it is flexible enough to be put on and taken off the wire many times. The clip at the bottom of the hanger ensures the reels stays on the hanger but this too can be put on and taken off quickly and easily. The reel is made from polyproplylene and can hold up to 25 metres (over 80 feet) of twine. Both the reel and twine are UV stabilised. The reel is easy to fit on or take off the hanger. The twine is wound on to the reel in such a way that the outside twine protects the inside twine from the elements. Pre-wound replacement reels are available - you may need them in two or three years when the first reel runs out. A new reel can be fitted to the hanger midway through a crop. The easiest way to use Reelenz There are many ways growers use Reelenz depending on their greenhouse but this is the most common and the way we recommend: At the beginning of the first crop we recommend unwinding the twine before fitting the hanger to the crop wire. This way the plants and hangers are evenly spaced. The reel will freewheel when held upside down or the twine can be pulled off sideways. Either way the twine unwinds easily Place the hanger on the crop wire with the reel facing you. When layering ( trellissing or leaning and lowering ) Grasp Reelenz with the thumb on the underside of the reel and the middle finger on the shoulder of the hanger. Simply push up with the thumb momentarily while pushing down with the middle finger. This will release the lock and the reel will rotate. Control the speed of the reel with the index finger. The reel will self-lock after one revolution. If more than one revolution of twine is needed to be released simply continue upward pressure with the thumb. Either hand can be used. If the plants are very heavy the other hand can be used to guide the plant. At the end of the crop Simply cut the twine and Reelenz easy-reels are ready for the next crop. This saves much time and labour at the end of each crop and the beginning of the new crop. Or if the twine has run out simply fit a replacement reel. These big, late maturing radishes were known in Europe much earlier than the smaller kinds. Chinese radishes grown in Florida vegetable garden soils often reach 20 or more pounds. Unlike spring radishes, this type of radish is usually cooked rather than eaten fresh. In Asia, larger daikon type radishes are important sources of food. They are cooked in various ways and preserved by pickling or drying. From one variety or another, the leaves, stems, flowering shoots, seed pods, seeds, sprouts, and roots are eaten. Powdered radish root can be conveniently substituted for fresh radish in most recipes. Raw radishes contain large amounts of diatase, an enzyme that aids in the digestion of starches. Maybe that's why the Japanese always serve radishes with rice dishes, and the Europeans serve radishes with breads and breakfast cereals. Radishescontain many of the same anti-oxidants and cancer fighting compounds as other members of the crucifer family, such as broccoli, cabbage and kale. Gymnema sylvestre is a woody, climbing plant, native to India. The leaves of this plant have been used in India for over 2000 years to treat madhu meha, or 'honey urine.' Chewing the leaves destroys the ability to discriminate the 'sweet' taste, giving it its common name, gurmar, or 'sugar destroyer.' The hypoglycemic (blood sugar-lowering) effect of gymnema leaves was first documented in the late 1920s. This action is gradual in nature, differing from the rapid effect of many prescription hypo-glycemic drugs. Gymnema leaves raise insulin levels, according to research in healthy volunteers. The leaves are also noted for lowering serum cholesterol and triglycerides. Gymnema has been used in India for the treatment of diabetes for over 2,000 years. The primary application was for adult-onset diabetes (NIDDM), a condition for which it continues to be recommended today in India. The leaves were also used for stomach ailments, constipation, water retention, and liver disease. Plant constituents include two resins (one soluble in alcohol), gymnemic acids, saponins, stigmasterol, quercitol, and the amino acid derivatives betaine, choline and trimethylamine. Gymnema sylvestre is a stomachic, diuretic, refrigerant, astringent, and tonic. It has been found to increase urine output and reduce hyperglycemia in both animal and human studies. Gymnema's antidiabetic activity appears to be due to a combination of mechanisms. Two animal studies on beryllium nitrate- and streptozotocin-diabetic rats found Gymnema extracts doubled the number of insulin-secreting betacells in the pancreas and returned blood sugars to almost normal. Gymnema increases the activity of enzymes responsible for glucose uptake and utilization, and inhibits peripheral utilization of glucose by somatotrophin and corticotrophin. Plant extracts have also been found to inhibit epinephrine-induced hyperglycemia. The primary clinical application for this botanical is as an antidiabetic agent. Gymnema has been the object of considerable research since the 1930s, with promising results for types 1 and 2 diabetes. In a controlled study, a standardized Gymnema extract was given to 27 type 1 diabetics at a dose of 400 mg daily for 6-30 months. Thirty-seven others continued on insulin therapy alone and were tracked for 10-12 months. Insulin requirements were decreased by about one-half and the average blood glucose decreased from 232 mg/dL to 152 mg/dL in the Gymnema group. The control group showed no significant decreases in blood sugar or insulin requirement. In addition, there was a statistically significant decrease in glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) after 6-8 months on Gymnema when compared to either the pretreatment levels or the control group.7 Twenty-two type 2 diabetics were administered 400 mg Gymnema extract daily for 18-20 months in addition to their oral hypoglycemic medications. Single-acting baking powders react slowlyat room temperature and release more of the gas when heated. Single-acting baking powders are better for products that will sit a while before being cooked. Layer cakes, cookies, biscuits, and many other bakery products are leavened by carbon dioxide from added baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). Added without offsetting amounts of an acidic substance, sodium bicarbonate tends to make dough alkaline, causing flavour deterioration and discoloration and slowing carbon dioxide release. Addition of an acid-reacting substance promotes vigorous gas evolution and maintains dough acidity within a favorable range. Satisfactory acid compounds include Alum, cream of tartar (potassium acid tartrate), sodium acid pyrophosphate, and various forms of calcium phosphate. Instead of adding soda and leavening acids separately, most commercial bakeries and domestic bakers use baking powder, a mixture of soda and acids in appropriate amounts and with such added diluents as starch, simplifying measuring and improving stability. The end products of baking-powder reaction are carbon dioxide and some blandly flavoured harmless salts. All baking powders meeting basic standards have virtually identical amounts of available carbon dioxide, differing only in reaction time. Most commercial baking powders are of the double-acting type, giving off a small amount of available carbon dioxide during the mixing and makeup stages, then remaining relatively inert until baking raises the batter temperature.
