This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Used as a decoction, extract, tincture, bath and poultice. The White or Quebec Oak (Quercus alba) is closely related to the Common orBritish Oak (Quercus robur), the hard wood is equally valued, and the bark has always been used the same way. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Oak bark for 'External: Inflammatory skin diseases. Internal: Nonspecific, acute diarrhea, and local treatment of mild inflammation of the oral cavity and pharyngeal region, as well as genital and anal area.' 'Full baths should not be taken, regardless of the active ingredients in the bath, under the following conditions: weeping eczema and skin damage covering a large area; febrile and infectious diseases; cardiac insufficiency stages III and IV (NYHA); hypertonia state IV (WHO).' 'Daily dosage: 3 g of drug; equivalent preparations. For rinses, compresses and gargles: 20 g drug per 1 liter of water; equivalent preparations. For full and partial baths: 5 g drug per 1 liter of water; equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration: Comminuted herb for decoctions and other galenical preparations for internal and topical use. Actions: Astringent; Virustatic.' Oak bark tannins bind liquids, absorb toxins, and soothe inflamed tissues. The oak tannin inhibits intestinal secretion, which helps resolve diarrhea. 'Like other astringents, it has been recommended in agues and haemorrhages, and is a good substitute for Quinine in intermittent fever, especially when given with Chamomile flowers.' This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. This is dark Indonesian cocoa powder. Real chocolate is a cocoa paste made from cacao seeds. Cacao seeds are the fruit of the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. Cacao is a Mayan word, not an Aztec word. The Aztecs, who rose to power hundreds of years after the Mayan collapse, called Vanilla 'tlilxochitl,' 'black flower.' It flavored their 'cacao water,' 'cacahuatl' in the Aztec tongue Náhuatl, 'chocol haa' in the ancestral Mayan tongue. Cacahuatl was made from vanilla, cocoa beans, honey, hot water and other spices, such as annatto. The Aztecs considered Cacahuatl to be aphrodisiac. Cacao was named Theobroma by Linnaeus, the word meaning 'food of the gods.' The fruit of the cacao tree is a huge berry, the cacao pod, usually egg or melon-shaped, 5 to 12 inches long and 3 to 5 inches wide. The cacao pod contains 30 to 40 seeds. It takes 20 to 25 pods to get 2 pounds of cocoa. Once the tree reaches maturity, fruit pods will sprout from its trunk and branches. The golden-red to purple fruit pods turn brown at maturity, at which time they are split open and the insides scooped out. The first few stages are the same for both cocoa powder and chocolate. Fermentation and drying, and often roasting are usually performed in the country where the cocoa was grown. Fermentation Beans removed from the pods are left to ferment for 5-6 days. This is usually at a raised temperature (45-50°C). The seeds germinate and die. Drying For 1-2 weeks the beans are left on mats or trays in the sun to dry, during this process they loose approximately half their weight, while the enzyme action from the fermentation continues. Roasting The beans are roasted for 1-2 hours at 99-104°C for chocolate or 116-121°C for cocoa powder. This process helps to develop the flavour and aroma. Winnowing The beans have their shells removed by a cracking and fanning process, producing 'cocoa nibs'. Dutching (alkalizing) This process was invented by the Dutchman Van Houten, cocoa nibs are heated with potassium or sodium carbonates before the grindng process to improve the ease with which the resulting cocoa mixes. This process also weakens the flavour and darkens the drink, and is not used by all manufactures. Grinding The nibs are then ground to produce waht is known as chocolate liquor. It is here that the paths for cocoa powder and chocolate split. Cocoa Dutching This step is more or less required to make cocoa properly, but is identical to the Dutching step above. Pressing The Chocolate is pressed to remove the fat. This was originally done by boiling and skimming, but Van Houten produced a hydraulic press, which was far more efficient. This is pure vegetable oil. There are eight naturally occuring forms of vitamin E, but one reigns supreme: alpha-tocopherol. The other seven forms of vitamin E cannot meet the body's vitamin E needs. In fact, alpha-tocopherol is so potent that the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin E is based on the body's requirement for alpha-tocopherol. Even the synthetic form of alpha-tocopherol, while beneficial, pales in comparison to naturally occurring alpha-tocopherol. Erva Tostão is a vigorous growing weedy vine found in many tropical and warm-climate countries from Brazil to India. The roots of Erva Tostão have held an important place in herbal medicine in both Brazil and India for many years. In Brazil, Erva Tostão is considered 'a plant medicine of great importance, extraordinarily beneficial in the treatment of liver disorders.' It is most often used as a tea or thick boiled decoction. It is employed in Brazilian herbal medicine as a chologogue (stimulating the flow of bile from the liver) and diuretic, for all types of liver disorders including jaundice and hepatitis, for gallbladder pain and stones, urinary tract and renal disorders and calculi, and for cystitis. Erva Tostão is called Purnarnava or Punarnava in India where it has a long history of use by indigenous and tribal people, and in Aruyvedic or natural/herbal medicine in India. There, the roots are employed for many purposes including liver, gallbladder, kidney, renal and urinary disorders. The worldwide use of Erva Tostão roots for various liver complaints and disorders were validated when researchers demonstrated in 1980 and again in 1991 that a root extract provided antihepatotoxic properties in animals; protecting the liver from numerous introduced toxins. In other clinical studies with animals, a root extract demonstrated smooth muscle and skeletal muscle stimulant activity in frogs and guinea pigs; hypotensive actions in dogs as well as in-vitro hypotensive actions; antispasmodic actions in frogs and guinea pigs; antiamebic actions in rats; and hemostatic or antihemorrhaging properties in monkeys with IUDs. The traditional use of Erva Tostão for convulsions and epilepsy was verified by scientists in two studies demonstrating that a root extract provided anti-convulsant action in mice. In vitro testing of Erva Tostão root extract show that has antibacterial properties including against gonorrhea, antinematodal properties and antiviral actions against several viral plant pathogens. The diuretic action of Erva Tostão has been studied and validated by scientists in several studies which help to explain its long history of use in various kidney and urinary conditions. Researchers showed in the mid 1950's that low dosages (10mg/kg to 300mg/kg) produced strong diuretic effects while higher dosages (300mg/kg) produced the opposite effect, reducing urine output. Other researchers who followed, verified these diuretic and anti-diuretic properties as well as the beneficial kidney and renal effects of Erva Tostão roots in animals and humans. Increased insect attack in the final stages of HPS only bloom growth may also be experienced. Other options would include using Sunmaster Warm Metal Halide lamps that burn at the 3 thousand Kelvin color temperature range.
