Camphor is a white crystalline substance, obtained from the oil of the leaves and wood of the east Asian tree Cinnamonum camphora. The name has been applied to various concrete odorous volatile products, found in different aromatic plants. But the commercial Camphor, used in such famous over-the-counter preparations as Vicks Vapo Rub, comes only from C. camphora. It is extensively used for religious purposes to offer 'Aarti' incense. A repellent for ants, flies, moths and other insects, it is used in bed clothes and in mothballs. It apparently stimulates cold sensors in the nervous system, and is therefore used as a counter irritant and an anti-itching substance. It is used in gout (in menthol and thymol) and skin conditions to give relief. Most essential oils are so strong that a little goes a long way. Essential oils should be diluted in carrier oils for use in massage. Avoid using mineral oils and babyoils for massage. Grape seed oil is used by lotionmakers and massage therapists. Grape seeds are the by-product of winemaking. Dried seeds are heat pressed and the resultant oil is refined, producing a light weight, pale green and virtually odorless product. There are no cold pressed grape seed oils. Ideal in lotions and other skin preparations for oily skin, grape seed oil also has good slippage and is basic tool employed by many massage therapists. Its main constituents are linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid and palmitoleic acid. Grape seed oil is non-toxic and is often used in low-fat cooking as it contains no cholesterol and has very low levels of saturated fats. Store in a cool, dark place, and keep tightly capped. Fresh grape seed oil has an expected shelf life of approximately 6 months. We recommend using rosemary oil extract to preserve and protect your oil from rancidity. Blend grape seed oil with more stable oils to help increase shelf life and to add nutrient value. Our body care oils are usually used in conjunction with our essential oils. Because of its aromatic qualities, cubeb goes well with meat, cheese and vegetable dishes. Another use for cubeb is in place of allspice, where it will give a more peppery flavor. This is pure, certified organic Sesame Seed oil. It can be used for cooking or as a carrier oil for essential oils. Vegetable oils make an excellent base in which to dilute essential oils for body care products. They are sometimes referred to as fixed oils because they are not as volatile (easy to evaporate) as essential oils. Sesame Seed Oil is a natural skin moisturizer, a good source of vegetable protein, rich in lecithin, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. It is also a good laxative. Other uses are for rheumatic conditions, eczema, psoriasis, or dry skin. Sesame oil is a traditional massage oil. Sesame Seed Oil has been used as a healing oil for thousands of years. Sesame oil is mentioned in the Vedas as excellent for humans. It is naturally antibacterial for common skin pathogens, such as staphylococcus and streptococcus as well as common skin fungi, such as athlete's foot fungus. It is naturally antiviral. It is a natural anti inflammatory agent. It has been used extensively in India as a healing oil, including in experiments which showed it was useful in unblocking arteries. Research shows that sesame seed oil is a potent antioxidant. In the tissues beneath the skin, this oil will neutralize oxygen radicals. It penetrates into the skin quickly and enters the blood stream through the capillaries. Molecules of sesame seed oil maintain good cholesterol (HDL) and lower bad cholesterol (LDL). In an experiment at the Maharishi International College in Fairfield, Iowa, students rinsed their mouths with sesame oil, resulting in an 85% reduction in the bacteria which causes gingivitis. As nose drops, sniffed back into the sinuses, sesame seed oil has cured chronic sinusitis. As a throat gargle, it kills strep and other common cold bacteria. It helps sufferers of psoriasis and dry skin ailments. It has been successfully used in the hair of children to kill lice infestations. It is a useful natural UV protector. Used after exposure to wind or sun it will calm the burns. It nourishes and feeds the scalp to control dry scalp dandruff and to kill dandruff causing bacteria. This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Pure vanilla oleoresin is mixed into a sugar base to make a delicious all-natural vanilla flavoring. Vanilla planifolia is native to Central America, where it is still grown commercially. The closely related Vanilla tahitensis, Tahiti vanilla, is native to Oceania. The Aztecs called Vanilla 'tlilxochitl,' 'black flower.' It flavored their 'cacao water,' 'cacahuatl' in the Aztec tongue Náhuatl, 'chocol haa' in the Mayan tongue. (The Aztecs were to the Mayans as the Dorians to the Mycenaeans, if one may make so bold.) Cacahuatl was made from vanilla, cocoa beans, honey, hot water and other spices, such as annatto. The Aztecs considered vanilla to be an aphrodisiac. Vanilla flavours many chocolate and confectionery items and several liqueurs such as Crème de Cacao and Galliano. V. pompona, also called Guadeloupe vanilla or Antilles vanilla from the West Indies, and V. tahitiensis, from Tahiti, are sometimes used as V. planifolia replacements. They are 'inferior' only in the sense that they are different. The aroma and flavor are slightly different, but taste is personal, and the alternative species are preferred by some. Fresh vanilla pods are tasteless - the vanillin is bound as a glycoside and must be set free by enzymatic reaction, normally induced by a sequence of blanching or steaming operations. It is this, and the equally labor-intensive need for manual pollination outside its originary South American home, that makes vanilla so expensive. Store vanilla beans in an airtight container in a cool, dark space along with your other spices. The deepest vanilla flavor is found in the seeds, the dark, sticky pulp inside the bean. Once you've extracted the seeds, there are a few ways to use them and the scraped pod: Infuse a liquid with the bean and seeds. Drop the seeds and the scraped pod into warm liquid, such as scalded milk or cream, and leave them to infuse for at least 30 minutes and up to an hour. Strain the pod from the liquid (the tiny specks of vanilla seeds will remain). Use the flavored liquid for your recipe. Add the scraped seeds directly to a batter. For example, add the seeds to the butter and sugar before creaming when making cookies. Add a small piece of a split bean (no need to scrape first) to a savory stew at the beginning of cooking. This is especially good in rich shellfish dishes or highly spiced meat dishes. A 2-inch piece of vanilla bean (halved and scraped) equals about 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
