Queen of the Meadow, also called Gravelroot, Kidneyroot, Purple Boneset and Joe Pye Weed (after the Native American herbalist Joe Pye), has an apple scent. Infuse the herb for a diuretic tea to relieve kidney and urinary problems. The tea is also used to induce sweating and break a high fever. Also useful for rheumatism, gravel (gallstones), and dropsy (fluid retention). Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'Queen of the Meadow (Gravelroot) is especially valuable as a diuretic and stimulant as well as an astringent tonic, and is considered a valuable remedy in dropsy, strangury, gravel, hematuria, gout and rheumatism, exerting a special influence upon chronic renal and cystic troubles.' Reelenz An innovative plant support spool with a sturdy 80 feet of nylon utilizing vine clips, if desired. Reelenz allows growers of heavy yielding vine crops, such as tomatoes and cucumbers, to securely support the plant. This spool contains unique replaceable twine spool and allow the gardener to layer crops by simply pushing up on the spool which unlocks the self-lock and releases ten inches of twine. Ideal for growing ten to thirty foot long crops in commercial applications. Reelenz Hangers and Easy-reels have been designed to make the task of supporting and layering your tomato plants quicker, easier and more efficient. The Reelenz system is a two piece unit: The hanger and a disposable reel wound with twine The hanger is made of nylon for strength and durability. The clip ensures the hanger will not spin off the crop wire but it is flexible enough to be put on and taken off the wire many times. The clip at the bottom of the hanger ensures the reels stays on the hanger but this too can be put on and taken off quickly and easily. The reel is made from polyproplylene and can hold up to 25 metres (over 80 feet) of twine. Both the reel and twine are UV stabilised. The reel is easy to fit on or take off the hanger. The twine is wound on to the reel in such a way that the outside twine protects the inside twine from the elements. Pre-wound replacement reels are available - you may need them in two or three years when the first reel runs out. A new reel can be fitted to the hanger midway through a crop. The easiest way to use Reelenz There are many ways growers use Reelenz depending on their greenhouse but this is the most common and the way we recommend: At the beginning of the first crop we recommend unwinding the twine before fitting the hanger to the crop wire. This way the plants and hangers are evenly spaced. The reel will freewheel when held upside down or the twine can be pulled off sideways. Either way the twine unwinds easily Place the hanger on the crop wire with the reel facing you. When layering ( trellissing or leaning and lowering ) Grasp Reelenz with the thumb on the underside of thereel and the middle finger on the shoulder of the hanger. Simply push up with the thumb momentarily while pushing down with the middle finger. This will release the lock and the reel will rotate. Control the speed of the reel with the index finger. The reel will self-lock after one revolution. If more than one revolution of twine is needed to be released simply continue upward pressure with the thumb. Either hand can be used. If the plants are very heavy the other hand can be used to guide the plant. At the end of the crop Simply cut the twine and Reelenz easy-reels are ready for the next crop. This saves much time and labour at the end of each crop and the beginning of the new crop. Or if the twine has run out simply fit a replacement reel. High Pressure Sodium lamps are used in greenhouses to elevate the red, orange and yellow electromagnetic wavelengths hitting the plant. Increased red, orange and yellow wavelengths can produce higher yields and more abundant blooms and fruiting sites when quality plant foods and bloom leaf sprays are used. Known as the 'Female Rejuvenative', Shatawari is helpful for low milk production, low sex drive, menopause and infertility. The plant has been used in ayurveda to increase milk secretion during lactation. Bhavmishra mentions this use particularly. Antenatal and Prenatal Care: One of the well-known major therapeutic potentials of Asparagus racemosus is its effect on female reproductive system. The study supporting this fact showed that an alcoholic extract of Asparagus racemosus exhibits anti-oxytocic activity. It has also been discovered that the saponin called shatavarinIV, an active component present in Asparagus racemosus is responsible for this activity. When studied in dose range of 20 µg to 500 µg/ml in various animal models like rat, guinea pig and rabbit uteri in vitro and in situ it produced a specific blockade of syntocinon, (oxytocin) induced contraction of uteri. Antitussive: The methanol extract of Asparagus racemosus root (200 and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) showed significant antitussive activity on sulfur dioxide-induced cough in mice when studied, the cough inhibition (40.0 and 58.5%, respectively) being comparable to that of 10-20 mg/kg of codeine phosphate (36.0 and 55.4%, respectively) a well known antitussive. Antioxidant: one of the important properties of Asparagus racemosus is its antioxidant property and the study conducted has showed that the antioxidant effects of active principles, present in crude extract and a purified aqueous fraction of Asparagus racemosus at the concentration of 10 g/ml, are comparable to that of the established antioxidants glutathione and ascorbic acid and also that these extracts have potent antioxidant properties in vitro in mitochondrial membranes of rat liver.These studies supported the fact Asparagus racemosus is a potential antioxidant that can be used therapeutically to capture free radicals generating in the body as a result of some pathological reasons and ultimately leading to severe damage to various cells in the body. This is Starwest's nitrogen-flushed double wall silverfoil pack. Mullein makes a sweet, non-biting, mildly sedative smoke, and is recommended by Grieve in that form, as well as a tea or strong decoction. It is also used as an extract, tincture and lotion. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Mullein flower for 'Catarrhs of the respiratory tract.' 'Daily dosage: 3 - 4 g of herb; equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration: Comminuted herb for teas and other galenical preparations for internal use.' 'Actions: Alleviating irritation; Expectorant.' Mullein is a good anti-inflammatory and demulcent respiratory remedy, very kind to the mucous membranes of the respiratory system,reducing inflammation while stimulating fluid production and thus facilitating expectoration. Externally an extract made in olive oil is excellent in soothing and healing any inflamed surface or easing ear problems. Mullein contains about 3% mucilage and small amounts of saponins and tannins. Grieve's classic 'A Modern Herbal': 'The Mullein has very markedly demulcent, emollient and astringent properties, which render it useful in pectoral complaints.
